Lighting the Chanuka menorah (chanukia)  on Chanuka. The eight day Festival of Lights starts on the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev and commemorates the miraculous victory over the Greeks (Hellenized Syrians). The temple was rededicated and a single jug of pure olive oil for the menorah was found. The oil lasted for eight days and that is why the festival is celebrated for eight days.
